Sounds Canadian

Today, a few selections from Sounds Canadian, a compilation which I suspect hails from the early or mid-'70s.

The Call - Gene MacLellan

Another sad-sack tale of woe from the previously-featured country singer Gene MacLellan.

Bittersweet - Donna Ramsay

Liner notes: "A talented young professional since the tender age of 4, Donna is from Sault Ste. Marie and leaves no doubt that she is going to go far. Cool Green Waters, her first Capitol LP, has already started her along the road to becoming a big singing star." "Bittersweet" is a very mid-'70s country number, with strings and weepy backup vocals reminicent of Barbara Mandrell or Tanya Tucker.

Wayward Woman of the World - Gary Buck

A countrypolitan warning directed towards an unfortunate lady of the night, by Thessalon, Ontario singer-songwriter and producer Gary Buck, who had a big international hit in 1963 with "Happy To Be Unhappy".

Love Looks So Good On You - Pierre Lalonde

Easy-listening pop tune by Montreal-born singer, actor and television host Pierre Lalonde.

The campus radio station I once worked at still had a copy of this a few years ago! One of those records I was sure I would never see on the web...
